Is Denver safe?

Scooters are everywhere so drivers are aware of their presence. Most drivers are courteous of course. Denver's neighborhoods are also safe. Even if you find yourself lost, few neighborhoods would be dangerous. You can always call us to help direct you to more interesting places.

Do I need a motorcycle license?

No, you need to be comfortable riding a bicycle and you need to have a current valid US or foreign drivers license for car.

Do I ride on the street or on the sidewalk?

You will behave exactly as a car. You will ride on the street and occupy a lane. Because our scooters are fast, you will not feel like you are a slow moving obstacle and you will not frustrate cars behind you. You will obey all the same laws you obey when you drive a car. However, when you want to park, you simply hop up on the sidewalk and park anywhere you like.

What if I have never ridden a scooter?

We will train you. If you can ride a bicycle and you can drive a car, we will easily train you to ride one of our scooters. No shifting is required; our scooters are twist and go. Our individualized scootorial will teach you about the operation of the scooter in only a few minutes. We then let you practice riding as long as you want in order to feel comfortable. Your time will not begin until you are sure you will be safe. If you are less than 5’2” tall, please let us know in advance so we can have an appropriate scooter ready for you. If you can ride a bike well, you will find riding a scooter extremely easy.

I can ride a bike, but what if I just freak out and don’t feel comfortable?

We are patient and we’ll let you take as long as you like to feel comfortable riding a scooter in our parking lot. If we don’t think you will be safe, we will refuse to let you go. This happens very seldom and it happens only to people who have not ridden a bicycle recently.

What if I want to stay out longer?

Please do. We love when people slide in at 7:59 p.m. with an empty tank of gas. That means they had the most fun they could squeeze in. Most people who expect to be gone only 2 hours continue riding and exploring. That is fine with us. Your time ends when you send us a text saying you have locked up the scooter at our location. You are billed for either two hours, three hours, or all day based on the time between your starting and ending texts. Remember, you don't need to stop for gas. We include it with all of our rentals.

What if it rains or snows the day I have my reservation?

On rare occasions, ice or snow on the roads will sneak up on us and we will need to reschedule. We will not let you go if we think the roads will not be safe. If there is ice or snow on the roads, we’ll need to reschedule. If it is cold, we just recommend that you bundle up. In the spring and summer, there may be rain showers where you choose to pull over to wait. If the day is likely to be constant rain rather than scattered showers, we will work with you to reschedule.

Where do we meet you?

We meet you at 1417 California Street in downtown Denver, Colorado. That is the parking lot between the Embassy Suites Denver Downtown (and Stout Street Social), the Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center, the Colorado Convention Center, and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. We'll be wearing an outrageous color.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Even when your mommy is not with you, she invested many years helping you reach adulthood. Despite how you treated her while growing up, she still loves you. Even when she's not looking, you need to do the right thing. Wear your helmet. We provide it at no additional cost.

Can I drink a bunch of that wonderful Denver brew?

Sure, after you return your scooter. You agree not to use any intoxicant before or during your scooter ride.

What about that legalized Denver green stuff?

Same rules as alcohol. We have a zero-tolerance policy for intoxicants.

What if I get lost?

What? You have maps and our directions for great sights. Denver is a big N-S-E-W grid except for the angled downtown area and the diagonal of Speer/Cherry Creek. To return back to us, head toward the tall buildings of downtown, then ask people where the Big Blue Bear is. If you are truly confused, just give us a call and we will coach you back to our location. That hasn't happened yet.

What if I crash?

Please don't. It is rare. We include liability insurance as part of your rental which pays for damage to any objects or people you hit. If there are injuries threatening life or limb, call 911. If appropriate, call the police. In any case, once you are safe, call us and we will help you figure out what to do. During our first two years, only one scooter was so damaged that it couldn’t be ridden safely. As you would expect, we will require you to pay for any damage to our scooter, which you can limit with our optional collision damage waiver.

What if someone steals my bike?

What? We provide you a simple, heavy duty cable lock. Locked scooters are very rarely stolen in Denver and none of ours have been stolen. Having said that, if your scooter is stolen, you will owe us the full value we agree to before you leave.

WHAT IF I AM NOT OLD ENOUGH TO RENT A CAR?

Car rental companies may say you are underage well into your twenties. To rent a scooter from us, you must be 18 or older with a valid driver's license. We consider ourselves an adventure activity for exploring in Colorado rather than transportation around Denver, but of course you can rent a scooter to run your errands if you like.

Do you do group rentals and tours?

Yes, we love them. Most individuals and small groups choose to rent and ride, often following one of our recommended loops. However, we are currently offering guided group sightseeing tours because so many people have loved them. Please call us to arrange a special event for your corporate outing, convention, or large group.

Do I have to tip?

Seldom is a ScooTours Denver representative there when you return your scooter; you do not wait for us to show up. That also means you will not feel awkward about a post-ride tip. Some people have chosen to leave a cash tip in the scooter seat, but this is in no way required. If you are on a guided tour with us, tips will be appreciated but are absolutely not required. You should feel no obligation.

What kind of clothing and shoes do I wear?

We strongly recommend shoes with good traction. Those stilettos make your legs look great but they are not effective when riding a scooter. Flip flops are comfortable, but do not provide great traction and we advise against them. We prefer if you wear long pants but many of our renters wear shorts. Remember you will have a 40 mph breeze blowing on you. This may chill you when it is not a hot summer day. For this reason we recommend long sleeves or a windbreaker.

How can I tell more people about ScooTours Denver?

Seriously? This is a frequently asked question? Please tell your friends how much fun you had by posting on the usual social media using #ScooToursDenver at facebook, instagram, tiktok, twitter, google, and pinterest. Most people find out about us through our excellent reviews at TripAdvisor or Yelp. Please write one if you are happy. If you are not happy contact us immediately. That hasn't happened yet.

Do you sell scooters?

No we don't but we recommend several excellent places. Consider visiting Sportique Scooters, Erico Motorsports, or Colorado Powersports. Please beware of cheap Chinese scooters. There are plenty sitting non-functional in garages all over Denver.

Should I buy or rent a scooter?

You should probably buy one. This depends on where you live but in the city of Denver, scooters are ideal. Many people rent scooters to verify that they will enjoy them. Nearly every time we have a renter who says he is considering buying a scooter and is renting just to make sure, he goes and buys a scooter after his rental. It is fun.

Will I have room to store my jacket or purse?

Our scooters have under-seat storage but it isn’t much after we coil the cable lock in it. A purse or a jacket will fit, but sometimes both together won’t. Some of our scooters have a storage case on the back that will more than double your storage capacity. Still, it’s not a station wagon.

What if I am running late?

Please contact us as soon as you know. We make a specific reservation time so we can be on time for you and reserve that scooter so nobody else takes it. If you are more than 10 minutes late, your deposit or voucher is subject to forfeiture.

Will you deliver to me?

No. Sorry. Make a reservation and come meet us at 1417 California Street so we can train you in our large parking lot. It is safer.

WHERE SHOULD WE STAY in DENVER?

We are in the central business district. If you were to fall from 54thirty (please don’t - it is Denver’s highest rooftop bar) you would land on us. That is at the Le Meridien which is a spectacularly nice place. Plan your stay in Denver on Kayak.
